ZINC MAGNESIUM CORROSION PROTECTION
Enhanced corrosion resistance with Hilti modular support system
Corrosion is a natural yet costly and potentially dangerous phenomenon that occurs in virtually all compounds. It can cause structural deficiencies that require expensive repairs or replacements that often result in wasted time.
Zinc magnesium offers enhanced corrosion resistance compared to conventional zinc-coated steel, without significantly increasing the coating thickness. A new manufacturing process is used to bind the zinc and magnesium to the bare metal surface.
This results in less zinc being used, making the coating thinner, lighter, with a more homogeneous application throughout the component surface area compared to traditional HDG coatings.
Your benefits
Self-healing
No more need of additional rework to protect cut surface while cutting any ZM channel.
Better for the Environment
Zink Magnesium technology reaches better results than HDG by consuming less zink, for a more sustainable and environmental approach.
Internationally recognized and widely used
The innovative ZM technology is already well established in the “structural” steel production. Hilti is promoting it for non-structural modular supports too.
Higher Resistance in corrosion environments
Compared to HDG, ZM technology reaches higher resistance results in every corrosive condition.
WHAT IS CORROSION?
Corrosion is the physicochemical interaction between a metal and its environment, which may result in changes in the metal properties and lead to significant functional impairment of the metal, the environment, or their technical system (see also ISO 8044:2010).
Considering metals commonly used in engineering – such as carbon steel, stainless steel, zinc, copper and aluminum – a typical corrosion is based on the over time degradation to its more stable (pre-manufactured) state.

Enhanced corrosion resistance with Hilti modular support system
Corrosion is a natural yet costly and potentially dangerous phenomenon that occurs in virtually all compounds. It can cause structural deficiencies that require expensive repairs or replacements that often result in wasted time. However, finding suitable components is not always so easy and quick.
The increased coating thickness also improves the forming properties of the component parts, improving the mechanical properties of bends and thread deformations. Therefore, even hard-to-reach corners, like inside bends, gain a better corrosion protection.
